Douglas Pancake Architects collaborated with Architects Hawaii as the programming and space planning senior housing architect for the CCRC at Kalakaua Garden, a new senior living tower in Honolulu.
The skilled nursing floors are stacked neighborhoods with open cluster plans. Units are designed to focus on views outside and are arranged around common spaces such as a rehabilitation center, shared kitchens, a living room, and dining space.
Like the residential units, the common areas also take advantage of the tower’s great views. One such space is the rehabilitation center on the west side of the 5th floor. Another, to the north on both floors, is the activity area where residents may socialize, play games, or relax. The 6th floor features a grand outdoor roof garden. The nursing service spaces and ancillary support spaces are separate from the residents’ experience.
