Brethren Hillcrest Homes underwent a campus improvement project to position itself for the emerging Silent Generation and Baby Boomer market expectations. The repositioning involved five new buildings including the aquatic and fitness center (AFC) which supports healthy, active aging.
The AFC is designed in the traditional craftsman California bungalow style consistent with the vernacular prevalent throughout the eastern edge of the San Gabriel Valley. Craftsman detailing and traditional materials support a human and residential scale inherent to the rest of the community.
The pool has been designed to encourage participation in fitness swimming. A zero-edge perimeter drain system maximizes smooth water surfaces even when the pool is in full use. Bench seating along the entire length of the pool was installed for residents to take short breaks and observe other swimmers.
